The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkaya for allegedly soliciting money to influence T/A Msamala to reinstate Village Head Mpepe who was dethroned by Group Village Head (GVH) Zalimu. ACB senior public relations officer Egrita Ndala said Nkaya solicited and received K15 000 (US$37) and K5 000 (US$12) from Mpepe on the pretext that he would give the money to Msamala and GVH Zalimu, respectively. “It was found that the money was not paid to Msamala and Zalimu, and Mpepe was not reinstated,” she said. Ndala said  Nkaya  was taken to Balaka Magistrate’s Court and was charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of corrupt practices by public officer contrary to Section 25 B (1)and 24 (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act, and one count of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code. —Staff Writer
