ActionAid supports 200 households in Phalombe

ActionAid has disbursed money to 200 households in traditional authorities (T/A) Phweleme and Nkhulambe in Phalombe to cushion them from economic effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Each family received K50 000 cash to buy food and other basic necessities.

In an interview on Friday after the donation, ActionAid programme manager (South) Landani Masingati said they expected beneficiaries to use the money prudently as they indicated during planning.

He said: “Before distribution, we engaged various households who made plans based on the problems they were facing.

“Their plans included reviving their businesses while others indicated food as their priority.”

Masingati warned traditional leaders against asking beneficiaries to give them part of the money.

One of the beneficiaries, Patricia Midule, said she would spend the money on food.

“Since the pandemic, life has been tough,” she said.
