Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola yesterday confirmed the arrest of Simon Nkhonjera, 40, of Kajikhomele Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mzikubola who works as unit marketing officer at Mqocha Admarc, and Noel Chirwa, 33, of Yotamu Village, T/A Mzikubola in Mzimba.

Nkhonjera on Friday sold the vendor five 50kg bags at K7 500 (about $10) each instead of K5 500 (about $7) value.

The bags were released in the evening after business, according to police. The vendor hired bicycle taxi operators to transport the maize but on the way some villagers quizzed them where they got the maize from.

Minister of Information and Civic Education Jappie Mhango said it is immoral for Admarc officials to engage in such malpractices. He said anyone caught will be dealt with. “That is the more reason they are arrested and even fired once caught doing so,” said Mhango. n
