The African Development Bank (AfDB), through the Nigerian Technical Cooperation Fund (NTCF), on Tuesday signed a $68 000 (about K17 million) grant to support capacity and infrastructure development programme at Chancellor College.

NTCF is the technical assistance arm of the Nigerian Trust Fund (NTF), which is a constituent window of the AfDB Group. It supports development efforts of sister African countries.

Speaking at the grant signing ceremony in Lilongwe, AfDB country representative Dr. Andrew Mwaba said the grant will support three information technology staff from the University of Malawi (Unima) to pursue an 18-month training in computer science at the African University of Science and Technology in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mwaba also said the agreement is also consistent with the prioritisation of education in general and information and communication technology (ICT) in particular in the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS II) by Malawi Government.

In his remarks, Chancellor College principal Professor Chris Kamlongera expressed gratitude and appreciation to the NTCF and the AfDB for the financial support and acknowledged that Malawi is behind as far as ICT development is concerned.
