Over 70 golfers are expected to take part in Afrox Golf Tournament today at Kasasa Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

The tournament will be played on individual Stableford format and is powered by Handigas—the cooking gas.

Afrox regional manager for centre and north Grace Khangama said her company is always thrilled to take golf to Dwangwa.

“We are impressed with the response from golfers around the country who have registered for the tournament and we will definitely sponsor again next year.

“Apart from those who work for Illovo in Dwangwa, others have travelled from Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Kasungu and this shows the level of commitment to the tournament and  Afrox,” said Khangama in an interview on Friday.

She said the tournament has been organised to socialise with  customers in Dwangwa for their continued support in buying Afrox products including Handigas.

“We will finish the day with prize giving and a three course dinner with golfers and our non-golfer customers whom we have invited,” she added.

Afrox has been sponsoring golf tournament in Dwangwa and Nchalo since 2004.

“Handigas is  a liquefied petroleum gas that is used for cooking. Ideally the use of this gas should be encouraged as a better and cheaper alternative to electricity and Charcoal.  Looking at the courses  where golfers enjoy playing their game, you will appreciate that all  golfers  like to preserve environment.”

She said Handigas offers an opportunity to save our trees and preserve forest cover.

Luke Sibale won the event last year, while Harvey Machinjiri won it in 2013. n
