The 12th National Agriculture Fair (Naf) opens on Thursday at Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, with hope that it will promote commercialisation and linkages generated from the value chain combination among players in the agricultural sector and linkages with non-agricultural sectors.

The fair, to end on Saturday, August 29, will be held under the theme, ‘Accelerating Agriculture for Economic Transformation’.agriculture-fair

In a statement released today, Secretary for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Erica Maganga said the theme recognises the importance of the agriculture sector as a dynamic source of growth, employment and more equal income distribution.

She said the theme also recognises agriculture as an integrate sector in transforming the landscape of the Malawi economy beyond being a source of subsistence.

“Apart from providing stakeholders an opportunity to showcase equipment, technologies, crop and fisheries products, animal and many other services associated with agriculture, it will alsoprovide a forum for stakeholders to share experiences and expertise on agricultural activities and discuss and conclude business deals which will lead to improved performance of the sector,” she said.

Maganga said the fair is also meant to expose farmers/farmer groups to new developments in technologies, markets, financial arrangements and other services that will lead to improved productivity.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has organised the fair in collaboration with Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).
