Patrick Chigwenyu, Chikondi Mitengo and Bon Maliwata scored for Kasungu Police while their captain Paul Mbunge and Robert Nkhono missed theirs.

During regulation time, Rangers took an early lead inside five minutes through Cyrus Phiri, but the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side equalised through Saiti William.

Kasungu then went on to take the lead through Medson Soko, but Lawrance Chauluka replied for Rangers to force the game into penalties.

Airborne assistant team manager Patrick Tawanya said it was a tough battle.

“In the end, we are happy to have excelled,” he said.

Police coach Laston Phiri blamed his boys for squandering chances.

“We could have killed off the game in open play had we been sharp enough,” he said.

In district finals played earlier on, Dwangwa Hammers beat Zamani FC 1-0.

As champions, Airborne and Hammers received K1 million each.

Both teams have qualified for the national phase together with Zamani FC who finished as districts’ runners-up.
