Airtel Malawi sponsors LoS

In celebrating arts, culture, music and beauty of Lake Malawi, one of the mobile phone providers Airtel Malawi, has pumped K11.2 million into this year’s Lake of Stars festival, making it the key partner of the annual feast.

According to Airtel Malawi’s Chief Commercial Officer Charles Kamoto, LoS promotes the arts agenda through the cultivation of creativity, therefore it is right and proper to accord the value art is clearly worth.

“We acknowledge the level of growth that the festival has registered. More so we are impressed with the way this festival has further escalated the exposure of Malawi’s culture, music and tourism to the rest of the world. As a firm advocate of arts and culture sector, we felt duty bound to support and uplift such an amazing initiative.

LoS founder Will Jameson believes while it remains one of the biggest music festivals throughout the world, it is an exciting project for arts and culture in Malawi.

“I am delighted to share our vision for a flourishing creative sector with Airtel Malawi and will be supporting Lake of Stars Festival and all of our associated events. And we also have another exciting new project that we’re about to launch in partnership with UNICEF plus we are working with the Mount Mulanje Porters Race on July 11 so keep an eye out for more news on those,” he said.

The current lineup for the festival which takes place September 25 -27 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, includes Gwamba, Lulu, Danny Kalima (AKA Sirius), Dan Lu, Bucci, Menes La Plume and George Kalukusha plus international talent from 2014 UK Mercury Prize award winners Young Fathers and Nigerian artist Ric Hassani.
