The journey to get the two teams to represent Malawi at the Pan Africa Aritel Rising star tournament in Kenya next month gets tougher this weekend as the local competition goes into the divisional finals.
The country’s six education divisions will this weekend identify their representatives at the national finals to be held in Lilongwe on June 17.
The national champions in both the boys and girls categories will be flown to Kenya to participate in a competition for 16 African countries where Airtel operates.
Airtel marketing manager Enwell Kadango said the company is impressed with the progress of the competition
“This year the competition is very exciting and apart from that, we also have a competition for our customers to win trips and watch Manchester United in action as well as win Manchester United authenticated certificate and jerseys valued at K450 000 (about $1 800).
“The Kenya competition will play a great role in exposing the young players to international football as we strive to nurture budding soccer talent from the grass roots,” he said.
