Netball sponsors Airtel Malawi have told the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) to improve their communication skills with regards to Malawi Queens’ engagements and fixtures of Airtel Money Netball Championships.

Airtel Money marketing manager Masiye Mazaza told The Nation on Monday that during the mobile network service provider’s sponsorship review meeting with NAM president Rosy Chinunda in Lilongwe last weekend, they pleaded with the local netball governing body to make timely communication on activities.

“Sometimes, we were in the dark about some activities in the netball circles, including national team engagements and Airtel Money Championships fixtures. This made it difficult for us to timely tighten up some loose nuts as official sponsors. Nevertheless, we are happy that NAM has promised us to make improvements,” he said.

Mazaza added that NAM has also presented a financial report to the company on how they handled sponsorship money during the last two seasons.

“The main purpose of the meeting was to review the sponsorship as we enter the last season of our three-year netball support. We, therefore, needed a financial report, which NAM has presented to us. We are happy with how they have handled the money, but still there are some challenges which both of us need to iron out,” he said.

Chinunda refused to comment on the outcome of the meeting yesterday.

Netball secured a K360 million three-year sponsorship from Airtel Money in 2012.

The package covers Malawi Queens’ engagements and the Airtel Money Netball Championship, which runs annually from district level to the national stage.
