Ajawa, Harawa go unopposed in CRFA polls

Central Region Football Association chairperson Austin Ajawa and his general secretary Bernard Chiwiriwiri Harawa will go unopposed in tomorrow’s election scheduled for  Malawi Police Headquarters in Lilongwe.

Harawa confirmed there were no challengers for the two posts.

“Mr. Ajawa and I have received nominations from all the nine affiliates that is why we will go unopposed at the polls. It is a vote of confidence and we are not taking this for granted. It shows the affiliates have faith in us,” said Harawa on Wednesday in Lilongwe.

In a separate interview, Ajawa expressed gratitude to the affiliates for their loyalty.

“This is evidence that we served them well. I can promise them that we will continue to discharge our responsibilities with diligence and prudence in order to make sure football improves in our region,” he said.

According to the list of candidates from Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary Alfred Gunda, Super League of Malawi executive committee member Alfred Lungu, Simon Lijeje and Charles Kapichi are vying for the vice-chairperson position.

Fixtures secretary Antonio Manda and Ben Namanja are challenging vice-general secretary Ibrahim Kalonga while incumbent treasurer Pyson Likagwa is the only candidate vying for the post.

Another surprise name contesting for the position of executive member is former Silver Strikers general secretary Owen Munthali.

Munthali faces competition from Joe Mwase, Wales Kazonde, Fredrick K. Banda, Paul Kampira, Charles Chimanjamanja and Thereza Chipolopolo

The elections according to Harawa, will be presided over by FAM. n
