Albino kidnapper gets 21-year jail sentence

Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court sitting in Mangochi on Friday sentenced Samson Allison, 49, to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping four-year-old Amadu Wasi, a person with albinism.

Eastern Regional Police prosecution officer Dickens Mwambazi told the court that the incident happened during the night of November 20 2017 at Tumbwe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Namavi in the district.

He explained that the convict who is an uncle to the victim and his accomplice Jafali Ligomeka, 44, connived to sell Wasi to unknown culprits who are at large at K6 million.

“On night of November 20 2017, the victim’s mother left the child in the hands of her mother when she went to Chilayi Village to attend a funeral ceremony,” said Mwambazi.

The first suspect pleaded guilty to the offence while the second suspect pleaded not guilty.

Passing judgement, senior resident magistrate Chamdimba Nkhata ordered the second suspect to go on remand to the pave way for the State to parade its  witnesses.

The convict comes from Tumbwe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Namavi. n
