Fashion designer Lilly Alfonso on Saturday afternoon hailed fashion designers at John Paul II Leadership and IT Institute in Chilomoni, Blantyre, for bringing children into modelling saying it adds value to the industry.

Alfonso said this at the institute during the Bee Tailoring and Lilly Alfonso fashion show and exhibition organised by Beehive.

The institute through its Mother Theresa Children’s Centre paraded 10 children under the age of six to showcase designs being made at the institute.

“I could not believe it when I saw the kids parading on stage. I should not hide it, there is talent at the institute,” said Alfonso.

During the event both Bee Tailoring and Lilly Alfonso displayed various types of designs. Wakisa Munkhondiya was voted best model whereas Mildred Malitowe was the best tailor and Madalo Nsewa came out the best designer.

Alfonso awarded Munkhondiya and Nsewa with an opportunity to work with her as head of modelling and design respectively for a year as a way to map their future into serious modelling and fashion design.

Apart from the modelling, there were musical performances including Dikamawoko Arts.
