Alfonso is FDH brand ambassador

Malawi’s celebrated fashion designer Lilly Alfonso becomes the first fashion designer to get a celebrity endorsement after FDH bank has appointed her brand ambassador.

This follows an agreement that the two sides have signed that is “beneficial to both sides.”

“It is true that I am now the brand ambassador of FDH bank. Though there are some issues to be completed latest next week, but from now onwards, I will be sponsored by the bank in whatever I do in as far as my career is concerned,” said Alfonso in an interview.

Alfonso is Malawi’s first clothes designer to attend Africa Fashion Week London a fete she will repeat this August. She will also make a maiden appearance at the African New York Fashion Week in the US in July this year.

“I am humbled with the trust FDH has shown in me to make me their brand ambassador out of many equally good designers in the country. This support will push me to greater heights as I and others strive to take Malawi on the international designing map. The good thing is the agreement both benefits me and the bank,” she said.

FDH Bank Marketing Officer Kamihela Ng’ombe said Alfonso is a fashion designer who has evolved over a number of years to come up with one of the top fashion labels in Malawi, LA Designs born out of pure passion and determination.

“Despite the low level of development in the Malawi Fashion Industry, Lilly moved against the tide and gained international recognition for her designs, attending international fashion shows and has been interviewed by numerous international media houses, including the BBC.

“She is a clear example of success and growth through sheer hard work, determination, and clearly defined goals: elements that represent the core values of our bank as we strive to provide superior financial solutions to all Malawians, within and across the borders of Malawi,” said Ng’ombe.

He added: “As such, we saw it well and fitting to engage Lilly on a partnership level and work with FDH Bank as an Ambassador as she shall be representing our brand internationally, in particular promoting our recently launched FCDA Diaspora Account targeting all Malawians residing outside of the country, wishing to remit funds and transact within Malawi remotely and at minimal costs.”
