Excited to showcase in London again: Alfonso

Malawi’s arguably top fashion designer Lilly Alfonso will this weekend participate in a charity show in London, Britain, in celebration of Africa’s handsome men.

The charity show is part of this year’s Mister Africa International pageant, set to take place on August 24 at the Africa Centre.

“The Mister Africa International is not just a pageant but it’s also an event that highlights campaigns for Africa and we are having a fashion of charity event on the same day with the theme ‘African Dream’. Here we invite African designers from all over the world, to help us draw attention to the charity we raise money for.

“Three potential NGOs based in West Africa are set to be the beneficiaries. Lilly has been invited as one of the designers this year to dress the beautiful models who will be campaigning for this cause,” said Ayotunde Fabamwo, the CEO of the Mister Africa International.

Fabamwo said Alfonso will be joined by other African designers mainly from the West.

He said Alfonso was chosen after her designs impressed the judges.

“Every year Just Fashion, which sponsors Mister Africa International, calls for nominations of designers from all over the world, and a group of judges headed by Just Fashion CEO Jennifer Richards decide which designer should be asked to come to the event. They look out for designs that are fresh, authentic and originally African,” he explained.

He stated that Malawi is set to benefit from Alfonso’s trip to Mister Africa.

“Mister Africa International is the biggest male competition in Africa and the fastest growing male competition in the world. It is the union of representatives in a pageant setting who join their voices together to make a difference in the world.

“Africa is the future of the world, and it’s important for us to unite and make the continent a better place for our children’s children. Lilly’s designs will not only bring the attention of the world to Malawi but also ensure Malawi is one of the African countries which want to deliver the future,” said Fabamwo.

Alfonso, who is finalising her trip’s logistics, is happy with the news.

“This is what Malawi designers need, showcasing at international events, which will result in the rest of the world appreciating Malawi fashion,” she said.
