Great things are still happening to leading designers Lilly Alfonso. Her creations have been selected to be auctioned at a Commonwealth gala event in Scotland.

Both Alfonso and organisers confirmed that she has been contracted to design two dresses to be auctioned at the Commonwealth Africa Night on November 9.

“What will happen is they will buy my dresses and auction them. The proceeds will go towards charity. I am very excited with this opportunity,” said Alfonso, who is in London for the inaugural Anglo Nubia Fashion Gala.

Victoria Chimbwanda of the Commonwealth Communications and Public Affairs Division said they approached Alfonso after noting her potential and the following her releases enjoy in the UK.

Said Chimbwanda: “We host various events to raise funds for specific charities. This year’s event will be held at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough House and Quadrant House, where commonwealth High Commissioners, diplomats, dignitaries, staff will be in attendance. To spice it up, there will be a fashion show with an aim to showcase traditional and contemporary clothing and jewellery from all 19 countries of the Commonwealth, including Malawi.

“It is for this reason that Lilly was contacted to help us and she has graciously agreed to send two of her outfits to be auctioned, with proceeds going to this year’s charity,”

The showcase will benefit Women Assistance and Business Association (Waba) in Ghana. In this regard, the focus will be on West Africa, especially Ghanaian designer Clement Odom of AlBliz Designs.
