All set for King and Queen of the Court finals

 

The slam-dunks and all that stuff will be on show this weekend when the  K5 million G.Y Imports & Exports King & Queen of the Court National Basketball Tournament reaches the climax in Lilongwe.

The finalists in the men’s event will be known this evening when national champions Bricks face Trojans while Brave Hearts take on Zomba-based Magang’a at Africa Bible College (ABC).

The games will be played from 6pm and the winners will clash in the finals tomorrow at Civo Court where Angels and Brave Hearts will also clash in the ladies’ finals. There will also be a third-place match in the men’s event.

To qualify for the semi-finals, Bravehearts Men saw-off Northern Region champions Nkhulande 74-33 while Bricks defeated Central Region champions Cougars 55-42. Magang’a dismissed Mimbulu  64-46 whereas Trojans emerged 79-52 victors over Bionets in an all-Lilongwe affair.

Bricks will bank their hopes on their shooting guard Victor Jere, Trojans will look up to Tocky Kaunda, Magang’a have their veteran point-guard Hope Chisamanga, who doubled as coach while Brave Hearts’ star player is point-guard Brian Kumwenda.

Daud Hussein, chief executive officer for one of the sponsoring firms Dr Print and G.Y Imports & Exports managing director Griffin Kalua said they are impressed with the standards displayed by the competing teams.

“This is exactly what we were looking for as sponsors to give players the platform to showcase their talents, thereby developing the standards of the game,” said Hussein. n
