All set for Nomads’ supporters polls

Chibowa: Only members will vote

After weeks of internal wrangles over procedures for elections, peace seems to have returned to Mighty Wanderers camp.
The blue side of town is set to elect a new main supporters committee this morning at their club house in Chichiri, Blantyre.
Electoral body secretary Henry Chibowa yesterday said all is set for the polls and the team’s warring factions have agreed with the modalities that have been put in place.
“We have sensitised the members to how they will vote and we expect free, fair and credible elections,” said Chibowa.
He reiterated that those who will vote will only be bona fide members who paid K1 500 fee.
“Security will be very tight and only those that will produce identity cards will be allowed access into the club house premises. As you know, we are not tenants; we do not rent the place, so we have to safeguard it.
“Contestants have also signed the agreement forms and they know what is expected of them,” said Chibowa.
According to the electoral body, the contest for the top seat of chairperson will be a two-horse race between Coxley Kamange and Dinesi Chitsulo.
Kamange once served as team manager and his bid to challenge outgoing chairperson Yona Malunga during the previous elections was frustrated. Chitsulo is a member of the outgoing committee.
James Chiutsankhondo is tipped to be elected first vice-chairperson unopposed while leader of the team’s supporters for Zingwangwa zone Moffat Chang’ambika will face Melvin Nkunika for the post of second vice-chairperson.
Incumbent secretary Felix Njaya will get a stern test from his predecessor Paul Mphepo in the quest to retain the seat.
Herbert Mapira will compete with Eric Mambucha for the post of deputy secretary whereas Aniva Njobvu Dominic will face Chifundo Chilambe in the race for the position of treasurer.
Rennex Tsilizani and Foster Phiri will contest for the position of vice-treasurer.
Eight supporters will contest for five committee membership positions and these are Olive Kandota, Doff Bottoman, Patrick Jali, Odillo Kailezi, Jimmy Smith, Lewis Korea, Bathlomew Chimpango and Francis Madzedze.
