“This is the time all athletes— both up-and-coming and veterans—have been waiting for to prove their fitness in Sunbird Ku Chawe Mountain Race,” said AAM president Godfrey Phiri.

Sunbird Tourism Limited said this year’s race comes with lots of surprises.

Sunbird public relations officer Akossa Mphepo said: “We are well aware that people might want to come and witness the marathon, run or walk up the mountain with the athletes. Therefore, we have reduced accommodation rates to K45 000 single and K55 000 double. We hope that both existing and prospective clients will take this opportunity to have fun with their loved ones at Sunbird Ku Chawe.”

She added that Sunbird Tourism Limited has increased sponsorship for the event.

“The working budget has increased by well above 70 percent of what was spent on the race in 2015. Prize money has also been raised,” she said.

Mphepo said Sunbird Ku Chawe Race provides a platform for athletes to display their skill and potential to a wider audience.
