Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and their sponsor TNM plc, will today in Blantyre award outstanding players and the media for their role in the success of the 2021 season.
Sulom general secretary Williams Banda confirmed in an interview, saying: “This event is for outstanding players and media personnel who contributed to the success of the league,” he said.
Banda said the awards would be offered to most improved player, best defender, best midfielder, best goalkeeper,, most disciplined team, best technical panel and most outstanding referees.
But he declined to give finer details of the event, including the venue saying they are yet to finalise.
On his part, TNM marketing and sponsorship manager Limbani Nsapato said this year’s event would be special.
He said: “All is set to decorate and honour the achievers of the 2021 season at a special ceremony on Friday night in Blantyre. For this year’s event, the stage has been combined to honour players, technical panels, team administrators, referees and sports journalist together.
“These awards honour excellence on the field by players in the top-flight league and sports journalists who bring the games live to people’s home through their coverage in newspapers, on radio, online and television.”
However, Banda said the Player of the Season award would be done later.
On his part, Nyasa Big Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said they were looking forward to the event.
He said: “It makes one feel excited that after a very long and difficult season, we can come together to witness awards. As champions, we relish to be part of the ceremony.
