The University of Malawi Staff Sports Association (Umssa) has said it has finalised preparations for the inter-college games that will take place at the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre this Saturday.

According to Umssa general secretary Chifundo Tenthani, all is set for the games which are participated by staff from the University of Malawi’s (Unima) constituent colleges.

“The games will start at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning. They will include football, netball, volleyball, darts and athletics. We ask the general public to come in large numbers to witness this fun-filled event,” said Tenthani.

The event, which will be used to identify and prepare athletes for the Southern African University Staff Sports Association (Saussa) Games in South Africa in December, will also incorporate staff from Nico Life Insurance Company, which gives Umssa K3.5 millon (about $21 000) annually for the Saussa Games.

After the Saturday event, Umssa will hold two more preparatory competitions in June and August before travelling to South Africa.
