Alliance Capital, Airwing sail into Presidential Netball finale

Alliance Capital Sisters and Zomba Airwing Sisters have sailed into the national finals of the Presidential Netball Championships.

Alliance Capital, formerly Woget Stars, whacked Gold Sisters 52-27 to win the Southern Region title for the fourth consecutive time at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) whereas Airwing beat rivals Prison Sisters 30-28 at Cobbe Barracks to reign supreme in the Eastern Region honours.

Apart from taking home K250 000 first prize each, the two sides have made it into the national finals where they will tussle against Central and Northern regions champions alongside seeded heavyweights Complex Tigresses, Diamonds, MTL Queens, Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets, Mafco, Karonga Queens and Lameck Queens.

At the BYC, Alliance Capital mesmerised their adoring fans and newly found sponsors with fantastic leads in every quarter. With Memory Kandulu and Edna Mvundula dominating affairs under the loop, the side led 13-7 in the first-quarter before increasing the tally to 28-13 and 42-18 in the subsequent segments.

Alliance Capital marketing manager Charity Mhango, who watched the match, said the team’s regional success was good, but the real battle is at national finals.

According to Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Carol Bapu, the national finals are scheduled to take place in Mzuzu at a yet to be set date.
