Alliance One renovates three primary schools
Tobacco merchant Alliance One has renovated Chipala and Lilongwe Demonstration primary schools in Lilongwe as well as Makanda Primary School in Traditional Authority Kalomo in Ntchisi.
In an interview, Alliance One corporate affairs officer Ben Kalua said the renovations involved painting walls and replacing broken windows and doors.
“This is part of corporate social responsibility. In Ntchisi, we have farmers we work with. We want their children to be learning in a safe and secure environment,” he said.
A teacher at Makanda Primary School, Mita Kamende, said before the renovations, the classrooms were in bad shape.
“Besides, the school does not have a fence. So, it was unsafe to keep learning materials in classrooms as some windows and doors were broken,” she said.
On her part, Lilongwe Demonstration School head teacher Caroline Mijika said the renovations will create a good learning environment for pupils.
