Leading up to the Africa Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) nominations gala, Amaa and Fashion Malawi Edition (Fame) will host an exclusive and spectacular fashion show in the capital, Lilongwe, tonight.

“As excitement continues over the Amaa nominations gala and P Square gig both on Friday at the Bingu International Conference Centre and Lilongwe Golf Club respectively, we are on Thursday holding a fashion.

“Yavinde Nyasulu, who is Fame Winner 2012, Haus of Gola and Lilly Alfonso, Fame Winner 2010, will represent Malawi at the fashion extravaganza.

“Ufulu Gardens will be the centre of attraction as these local designers will be joined by the amazing Ejiro AmoTafari of Nigeria, who flies in to showcase a display of her edgy yet regal designs,” said EvelineSibindi Van Dam, Fame financial director.

However, out of the three Nigerian designers mentioned earlier on, only one has confirmed attendance.

“Currently, Tafari is the only one who has confirmed her attendance. However, there is still the possibility of having the other two as they are still sorting out their logistics,” explained Van Dam.

She further added: “Each designer will showcase a collection, including a one-of-a-kind piece, using fabrics sponsored by Mapeto DWSM.”

Having been in the industry for about 5 years, Tafiri is a fashion designer based in Lagos known for her unique designs and attention to detail. For Tafiri, the decision to go into fashion designing was predestined.

“At the time when I was growing up, we did not have the inclination of having an art-based career. Our parents wanted us to be doctors, lawyers, and engineers.

“And so, naturally, I was to become a medical doctor because I was good in sciences. I never knew fate had something else in store for me, which I discovered while offering clothing and textiles as vocational subject,” Tafiri says in a statement by Fame.
