Gospel musician Lawi, whose song Amaona Kuchedwa has become the number one hit at nightclubs and parties, has proved his worth as the anthemic hit song from his self-titled album dwarfs other local singles at the top of the download chart on www.malawi-music.com.

AmaonaKuchedwahas been downloaded 18 447 times as of yesterday with the second-placed Dzuka Malawi by Lucius Banda hitting 11 865 downloads.

On average, a song is downloaded 2 000 times on the website.

Zimuvutaby Gwamba featuring Crazy G, Martse and Tidacase, remains the song with the fastest number of downloads on the site.

In four days, Zimuvuta, one of the singles from Gwamba’s up-coming album KudutsaPakhoma, is on position three with 11 396 downloads. The song had more than 5 000 downloads in 24 hours.

Gwamba is also the artist with more songs in the top 20 downloads on the site.

The song with the least votes on the top 20 chart is Tikachenjera by Revelet featuring BlakJak with 1 486 downloads.

Speaking to The Nation, Gwamba expressed excitement, saying he does not take the development for granted.

“I did not know I had such a huge following. Imagine, today [yesterday] it’s only a week since we uploaded the song but already we have over 10 000 downloads,” said a seemingly excited Gwamba.

On the other hand, Lawi said he feels honoured with the development as it is a sign that people appreciate his music.

“My gratitude to all those that support my music and I think this is undisputable proof that online music selling is the way to go,” said Lawi.
