Ambulance kills two babies in an accident

An ambulance plunged into a ditch in Mangochi killing two new born babies.

The accident happened close to Traditional Authority Bwananyambi headquarters while the ambulance was on its way to Mangochi District Hospital. It carried an expectant mother who delivered twin babies while in the ambulance on her way to the hospital. The twins died in the accident.

The driver of the ambulance is said to have lost control of the vehicle which ended up into the ditch by the side of the road.

Mangochi District Health Officer William Peno confirmed the accident in an interview saying his office was still gathering information on the matter.

Mangochi police spokesperson Rodrick Maida said he did not have details of the accident.

This has happened two days after another ambulance was swept away at South Rukuru bridge in Mzimba. Eight nurses and a driver who were travelling to a funeral were rescued in the accident.

Last week an ambulance was also involved in an accident in Mangochi in which nobody was injured in the accident.
