The Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) has said it has come up with an amended draft constitution in line with Sports Council’s directive.

During AAM’s annual general meeting last month, Sports Council gave the newly elected AAM executive committee 90 days [from September end] to amend the association’s constitution.

AAM president Godfrey Phiri said the draft constitution will be submitted to the affiliates for their input.

“We are hopeful that by mid-November, we will have submitted the amended constitution to Sports Council for their perusal,” said Phiri.

“The constitution will guide us in planning our activities,” he said.

During the AGM, Sports Council executive secretary George Jana noted that there were many flaws in the current AAM constitution which needed to be rectified.

“Make sure that in 90 days there is one constitution agreeable and approved, failure of which the executive will be moved out using the powers conferred upon the council,” Jana warned.

In a related development, the AAM president said they are scheduled to meet Diaribord on Tuesday to review sponsorship of the Ching’ombe Marathon.

He said the tournament will help prepare athletes for the Southern Africa Cross-Country to be held in Lesotho next February.
