Amref Health Africa has donated hand-washing facilities to less-privileged families in Ntchisi.

Speaking after the donation yesterday, Amref project assistant officer Edna Kakhwali said one way of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic was washing hands regularly with soap.

“It is difficult for some to practise personal hygiene because they cannot afford to buy the facilities,” she said.

Kakhwali said they are planning to reach about 100 000 households.

A beneficiary, Sungeni Joseph from Bengamvula Village in Traditional Authority Kalumo commended the organisation for the buckets.

“We will now be able to observe Covid-19 preventive measures,” she said.

Another beneficiary Alice Phiri said she will use the buckets for their intended purpose.

Amref Covid-19 response is funded by Canadian African Initiative.

The organisation is implementing Address Maternal Newborn and Child Mortality-Extension Project in Ntchisi, Chitipa, Mangochi, Machinga, Zomba and Chikwawa districts. The project started in July 2020 and is expected to phase out next month.
