The Balaka Football League (BFL) has set December 15 for the finals of the K1.5 million (about $4 500) Andiamo League, sponsored by Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust (AYCT), following the qualification of two teams into the final stages at the weekend.
Former Division One side Andiamo Bullets will meet resilient Super Rangers. Andiamo secured a final slot after beating Balaka Socials 1-0 at Balaka Stadium on Saturday whereas Rangers thrashed their erstwhile rivals Liwonde Roadblock 4-0 at the same venue the following day.
“Everything is almost set for the finals that will be played at Balaka stadium. The sponsors have nodded to this date and we just have to send some invitations,†BFL vice-chairperson Richard Koloko said this on Tuesday in an interview with Nation Online.
One of the competition organisers, Harry Walima, said he was satisfied with the way the league was run.
“Despite some minor problems that arose we are happy with the organisation. There was stiff competition throughout the league, and this year many teams from the rural areas participated which was an encouragement,†said Walima.
AYCT started sponsoring the league three years ago to the tune of K100 000 (about $303). The sponsorship is now at K1.5 million (about $4 500). AYCT sponsors the league in conjunction with Association of Lawyers in Bergamo, Italy. This year, the league attracted 74 teams.
