Eight teams have reached quarter-finals of the K1.5 million Andiamo League in Balaka which is sponsored by Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust (AYCT) in conjunction with Association of Lawyers from Bergamo in Italy.

The teams are Super Rangers, Mwima, Balaka Socials, Andiamo Bullets, Sawali, St Peter’s, Mangochi Turn Off and Liwonde Roadblock.

Major casualties of the league are defending champions, Chilobwe FC, who were knocked out 3-1 by new entrants St Peter’s FC from Utale 1. Other teams that reached this stage last year but have crashed out in the same round of qualifiers are Pack & Go, Sawali, Mbera United and Phalula Dynamos.

A draw is expected to take place this week to determine the fixture of the quarter-final games. The champions are expected to cart home K200 000 and a trophy, runners-up and third placed teams will get miniatures and K150 000 and K70 000 respectively. The fourth-placed team will get K50 000.

The most disciplined team will receive K20 000 whereas top goal scorer and player of the tournament will each get K10 000.

AYCT have sponsored the league for three years.
