Angels hold Street Basketball, netball tourney

Central Zone Basketball (Cezobal) Women League team Angels will today hold a day-long Street Basketball and Fast Five netball tournaments at Civo Court in Lilongwe.

According to Angels team manager Lisungu Moyo, the event aims at raising funds for their outreach programmes.

The event to start at 9am is sponsored by Authentic Medicals.

“Each season we target to encourage girls to pursue higher education through basketball, and also reach out to the sick, widows, orphans and the destitute. Authentic Medical Suppliers has come in at the right time when we are planning a national cancer awareness programme that will focus on problems women face with breast and cervical cancer,” said Moyo.

Authentic Medicals Suppliers managing director Russel Golden said his company decided to support the events due to passion the club has to help the cancer awareness programme.

Registration for basketball tournament is at K5 000 while for netball it is K3 000. The teams can register by calling 0884 531 609 or 09 99 777 682.

The winning teams will be provided with Authentic Medicals-branded T-shirts.

Some of the activities to spice up the events include a sizzling barbeque, performances by popular Malawian music artist DJ Kali and others.

There will also be women’s car wash and a series of other competitions for family entertainment.
