The Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire last Sunday launched the Father’s Union at Liwonde Anglican Church in Machinga.

The function was presided over by Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire, Brighton Malasa.

Malasa called on members of the union to commit themselves to God’s work.

He said this is the first time for men in the church to form such a group, adding that other groups are dominated by women.

“The mission of the union is to bring Anglican men to total commitment to Christ and enable them to fulfill their obligations as heads of families and members of the church and community,” he said.

President of the union, Michael Matewere, said the group has come to stay and will help people in need in the church, homes and hospitals, among other areas.

“My fellow members, we have a big task to do in society. Being members of the union does not mean we are special people. Let’s put God first for us to achieve our goals,” said Matewere.
