Anglicans seek God’s guidance on visionary leader

The Diocese of Southern Malawi of the Anglican Church in Malawi will on Saturday turn to prayer to seek God’s guidance in choosing a God fearing visionary and peace loving leader in the May 20 Tripartite Elections.

Vicar-general of the diocese stationed at Christ the King Church, Soche Parish, Reverend Father Patrick Mapundula said in an interview that prayers for polls will be held at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in Blantyre in the morning.

Bishop of the diocese of Southern Malawi Alinafe Katema is expected to preside over the function that will be attended by five Anglican choral groups and one from the CCAP Blantyre Synod.

The prayers will be held under the theme ‘Praying and seeking the face of God’s guidance’.

“As a church, we are called to be concerned about the welfare of our nation, according to Jeremiah 29 verse 7. As such, we have the task to pray for those in authority as reported in 1 Timothy 2 from verses 1-4.

“People should in all eletions go and vote for visionary, righteous, God-fearing leaders who have the interest of people’s1 at heart,”said Mapundula.

The Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) and National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust and “peace loving Malawians” are due to attend the prayers.
