Police at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe yesterday arrested an Angolan national for being found in possession and allegedly attempting to fly out of the country with cocaine concealed in male condoms and body lotion bottles.

Some of the lotion bottles containing cocaine

The suspect, identified as Joao Matateu Manuel, 44, was arrested at around midday after KIA’s main terminal X-ray machine detected the drugs, prompting officers at the searching point to offload his bags, according to KIA Police Branch spokesperson Supulain Chitonde.

He said the suspect claimed the bags contained bottles of body lotion.

“When the suspect opened the luggage, it was discovered that they contained 69 bottles of body lotion of different types that were used to conceal cocaine in male condoms in a liquid form,” said Chitonde.

The arrest comes almost two weeks after Christian Osigwelen, a Nigerian businessperson and two Malawian women were arrested for being found in possession of and attempting to import illegal drugs through KIA. n
