Another Malawian musician in movie role

Wendy in no Weeks after Malawi’s popular musician Lucius Banda revealed being approached by film-makers to feature in their movies, another singer, Wendy Harawa, goes to the stage with her dancing antics.

This weekend, Wendy is expected to feature in a Rising Choreos play No More Tears.

The play, written and directed by Joyce Mhango-Chavula, is the group’s first production for 2013.

Rising Choreos director Mhango-Chavula confirmed in an interview that Wendy is one of the main actors in the play slated for Capital City Motel in Lilongwe on February 3.

“People have been questioning movie-makers on how they select actors for their productions and we know many are surprised by Wendy’s involvement,”

She says No More Tears is a musical production.

“It is full of music, drama and dancing. We had to look around for artists who can sing better, with an open mind and demonstrate stage antics and so Wendy is just better in such areas,” says Mhango-Chavula.

Another new character in the play is up-and-coming musician Anthony Dumba, National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) Central Region chapter chairperson Susan Kamkosi-Banda and Mhango-Chavula will lead the list of experienced actors in the play.
