President Peter Mutharika on Monday gave Dedza Secondary School an 18-seater Nissan Caravan minibus worth K5 million (US$9 843) to ease transport problems at his former school.

ben-phiri_mini-busSaid Phiri: “The President believes that what he is today is because of what he learnt from this school. When he came to the institution last month, he was presented with several challenges such as dilapidated infrastructure and the bad shape of the earth road connecting the institution to Dedza Boma.”

Phiri said Mota-Engil has been contracted to transform the road into an all-season gravel road.

The school’s deputy head teacher Adness Banda thanked the President for the gift.

Rehabilitation works on both the school and the road will cost K15 million.

Some of Dedza Secondary School’s alumni include former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development  Goodall Gondwe and Chief Secretary to the Government George Mkondiwa.
