President Peter Mutharika on Saturday urged chiefs to develop a good relationship with their subjects to avoid losing big projects such as the proposed five-star hotel project in Mangochi.
The President made the remarks in Machinga when he elevated Senior Chief Kawinga to Paramount Chief at his Nanyumbu Headquarters where Democratic Progressive Party, United Democratic Front and chieftaincy colours decorated the event with a call for chiefs to work with the government of the day.
Mutharika said he was saddened that the investor abandoned the Mangochi project due to misunderstandings. This resulted in the investor opting to build the hotel in neighbouring Tanzania, he said.
“This is a sad development. Chiefs need to have a cordial relationship with their subjects so that we do not have such issues of losing big investments project,” he said.
Mutharika then urged Yaos to support the paramount chief to advance developmental projects government has earmarked for the Eastern Region.
