Association of Progressive Women (APW) has urged women in Balaka to actively participate in activities that promote good governance and gender equality.
APW chairperson Roseby Dinala said this on Tuesday in Balaka during a training the organisation held for women in the district.
The training, which was funded by NGO-Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN), was aimed at enlightening the women on the role they have to play in making political leaders accountable.
“Women should be active citizens because that is the only way the 50-50 campaign can bear fruits,” she said.
Dinala urged the women to approach their councillors and Members of Parliament on issues related to development in their areas.
Speaking during the training, Traditional Authority Chamthunya praised APW for its efforts to promote gender equality and good governance.
Chamthunya asked APW to consider empowering women economically by assisting them with business capital.
