Thousands of Malawians, led by President Peter Mutharika, descended on Iba Village in Namwera, Mangochi yesterday to join Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Archdiocese of Blantyre as he celebrated his silver jubilee of religious service.
Other high-ranking figures at the event included First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, Vice-President Saulos Chilima and his wife Mary, former president Bakili Muluzi and bishops Montfort Stima of Mangochi Diocese and George Tambala of Zomba.
Archbishop Msusa thanked God for his blessings. He also thanked Mutharika for promoting education and freedom of worship, saying this has fostered unity among Malawians of different religious beliefs.
During the event, the President extended his condolences to families of those that have lost their loved ones in recent road accidents, advising road users to observe traffic regulations.
Mutharika also condemned people who resort to violence whenever they have grievances, advising chaos would not resolve any problems.
