Central Region Netball League (CRNL) has settled for Area 30 netball courts in Lilongwe to host the regional finals of Airtel Money Netball Championships this weekend.

CRNL chairperson Fanuel Katengeza told The Nation yesterday that their meeting at Lilongwe Community Centre Ground (LCCG) on Wednesday came up with the decision after receiving an allocation of K200 000 for the administration of the two-day contest.

“We have finally known and received our allocation for administration from the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) and we have noted that the sum is enough to book the Area 30 venue at K45 000 per day,” said Katengeza.

Before receiving their allocation, the CRNC was in a fix over the venue of the tournament because they were not sure where the money for venue bookings could come from. This happened after they realised that one of the netball courts at the free-of-charge Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) was in bad shape.

The CRNL, whose finals will comprise 20 teams, is the only regional committee yet to conduct their finals. The finals will qualify the best two teams to the national finals slated for Lilongwe from April 18 to 20.  The other three regions finished their events last weekend in Blantyre, Zomba and Mzuzu.

Regional champions and runners-up will make it into the national finals slated for April 18-20 in Lilongwe along with seeded teams Diamonds, Complex Tigresses, MTL Queens, Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets, Mafco, Lameck Queens and Karonga Queens.
