Arsenal director in Nigeria for Airtel tourney

airtelMalawian young talent taking part in the continental showcase—the Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) Africa Championship—have a chance to impress top English Premiership club Arsenal which has sent a delegation to Nigeria to watch the action as it unfolds.

Arsenal’s director of global partnership Vinai Venkatesham leads the delegation that includes a scout on the invitation of Airtel.

Airtel is in partnership with Arsenal, Manchester United and Samsung in this noble cause to develop the continent’s emerging talent.

Said Venkatesham: “As a club, we believe in young talent and that is why we partnered Airtel in this noble cause that could turn around Africa’s football.”

Airtel has also announced that outstanding players the tournament will undergo special clinics to be conducted by experts from the Gunners and Red Devils in April next year.

Already, six Malawian players have already been short-listed for the exercise based on their outstanding performances in the opening games and these are Precious Msosa, Wongani Kuzisanja, Isaac Mwale (Joyce Banda Foundation); Rina Chipli, Pilirani Malola and Monica Chapweteka (Matindi Girls Academy).

Kuzisanja, who struck a double in JBF’s 3-0 win over Rwanda on Tuesday, said his focus is to help his side win the tournament and put Malawi on the map.

Winners of the tournament will pocket 10 000 dollars (about K3.5 million) each winner in boys and girls category.

Sixteen countries in which Airtel operates in, are taking part in the pan-African Championship.—Kutola chikwama ndi Airtel Money.
