Nyasa Mining Cooperative (NMC) plans to hold the 2020 Artisanal Small Miners (ASMs) Annual General Conference in August in Lilongwe to woo more investors to the sector.

In a statement, NMC chairperson Percy Maleta said the conference, expected to attract 200 mining stakeholders, will adhere to novel coronavirus (Covid-19) precautionary measures.

Maleta: Malawi remains a virgin land

He said: “Malawi remains a virgin land with a myriad of unexploited mining investment opportunities.

“It is through increased sharing and networking that these opportunities can best be exploited through professional investment.”

On his part, the conferenc’s organising chairperson Peter Mbiko Jere said the event will provide an opportunity for participants to engage ASMs on financing, taxes and insurance products targeting ASMs, among others.

NMC is a Lilongwe-based cooperative with 100 members from Lilongwe and surrounding districts, 60 percent of whom are women and the youth.
