The assailants got away with an unspecified amount of cash, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Southern Region Police spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa said the guard, Bodmas Staka, from Neno, was guarding the place alone when the assailants jumped over the premises’ perimeter wall and hit him with a big stone before breaking into offices.

Said Gondwa: “According to the owner of the company, the [suspects] who have not yet been identified, stole a cash chest containing an amount of money they have refused to disclose to the police.”

Gondwa said Staka’s body is currently at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital mortuary in the city awaiting a postmortem.

Gondwa said inquiries to arrest the suspects and establish the amount of cash stolen are still underway.

Staka was a security guard from VIP Security Services and was guarding Mercia Industries as an agent from his
company.
