ATC plants trees at Kawale Primary School
Agricultural Trading Company (ATC), a subsidiary of Auction Holdings Limited (AHL) group, has planted 1 000 trees at Kawale Primary School in Chitipa as part of its contribution to this year’s tree-planting programme.
Speaking after the exercise last Thursday, ATC general manager Christopher Beya said they targeted the primary school as a way of educating learners to care for the trees.
Last year, the company planted the same number of trees at the same school.
“We are also following up on the trees we planted last year to see its survival rate. Initially, we were only planting trees without follow ups.,” he said.
Group village head Mkombanyama said the rate of deforestation is very high in the district due to high dependency on charcoal and burnt bricks.
