Attendant arrested for illegal drug possession

A hospital attendant at Kabudula Health Centre in Lilongwe Monday pleaded guilty to drug theft when he appeared before Mapuyu Magistrate’s Court on charges of illegal possession of drugs and medical supplies.

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula in an interview identified the suspect as Wilbert Chimkango, 40, from Laimu Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalolo in Lilongwe.

He said before Chimkango’s arrest, on November 30 2015, Namitete Police officers in the company of officials from Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board arrested 56-year-old Joseph Suwedi for running a private clinic without licence, who in the course of interrogations named Chimkango as his supplier.

Dandaula said among the drugs recovered at Chimkango’s house were LA, Panadol, Bactrim, Euthromycine, methylated spirits, Amoxil, Doxycline and supplies such as syringes, injections, gloves, cotton and surgical blades

The total value of the stolen items has not yet been established. n
