Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Lilongwe Bureau football team Ayobe Stars proved too good for FMB Lilongwe Branch by beating them 7-2 in a social friendly match played at Civo Stadium, last Saturday.

Sydney Godi’s first-half brace set the pace for Ayobe Stars’ victory. By half-time, Ayobe Stars were leading 3-0, courtesy of Stanley Kabota’s 42nd minute goal.

With the three-goal deficit, FMB came into the second-half an improved side, with Andrew Maganga terrorising their opponents’ defence.

Maganga later slotted in a beauty in the 64th minute, after a poor clearing by a Stars defender.

Two minutes later, Stars responded with two quick goals through their four-goal hero Godi, before FMB substitute Stonard Nyirenda’s good finish in the 80th minute, to make it 5-2.

With six minutes left, it was an all-Stars show as Mike Mlanjira gave the merchants a heavy task of balancing figures on the score sheet. Mlanjira made it mission impossible for the merchants after he scored two more goals.

Ayobe Stars midfield was marshalled by Watson Mkandawire.

Pilirani Kachulu as usual came in as super substitute, but misfired twice with only the goalkeeper to beat.

FMB coach Charles Shawa conceded defeat and attributed the loss to the absence of some of their regular players.

On his part, Ayobe Stars technical director Clifford Nyondo praised his charges for a job well done.
