During the time of the ‘theft’, Nkhwazi said the mother, 18 year-old Triza Mukoko Kasowa, from Mateyu village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A)  Kaduya in the district went out to relieve herself.

“When she came back, she did not find the baby and since there was no electricity at the time of the incident, it is believed that the culprits took advantage of the situation to escape in the dark,” said Nkhwazi.

He said a midwife technician who was on duty at the time of the incident told police the baby was delivered at around 4pm on Monday and the mother was on observation.
Meanwhile, Nkhwazi said police have intensified investigations and are appealing to members of the public to help law enforcers in recovering the baby by reporting anyone suspected to have stolen the baby.
