The winners went home with a crocodile shaped wooden trophy and a chafing dish each as prizes.

Baylis was nearest to the pin and also had the longest drive on day one of the competition whereas on day two, Mwanza had the longest drive and Mvula was nearest to the pin.

In her speech, Bailey thanked Bollore for the continued support, saying it will go a long way to promote ladies’ golf.

“It has been a wonderful tournament and it feels good to have won the tournament,” she said.

Outgoing Ladies Golf Union of Malawi (LGUoM) president Wilma Chalulu thanked Bollore for sponsoring the event for many years.

“Since you started supporting us, ladies golf has improved greatly and so too the number of women playing golf. It started as a small tournament, but it is now a big event,” said Chalulu.

Branch manager for Bollore responsible for Central and Northern Regions, Armando de Oliveira, said his company is committed to ensuring the sport is popular among women in the country.

“We are proud to sponsor ladies golf and next year we will be back. Through this sponsorship, we want to produce more and more women golfers,” said de Oliveira, attracting applause from the golfers.n
