Balaka calls for more special needs teachers
Forum for People Living with Disabilities in Balaka District has asked government to increase the number of special needs teachers in the district’s schools because parents have now realised the need to send children with disabilities to school.
Coordinator for the forum, Hilda Malikebu, said this on Thursday during an interface meeting with the media on the progress of the project to enhance accountability and active participation of persons with disabilities in local government projects being implemented by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in partnership with the Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (Fedoma).
Charity Ligomeka, a Form Three student at Balaka Secondary School, said in the past she used to face discrimination which affected her grades but things have changed now. n
