Leopards released Banda, the first Malawi Defence Force (MDF) footballer allowed to sign for a foreign club, in the middle of his two-year contract, citing an exhausted quota of five foreigners.

“My [MDF] bosses asked me to report for work and I did not want to waste time. Once I am done with the formalities at work, then I might resume training with Red Lions, probably this Thursday” Banda said on Monday.

Banda said he was impressed with Lions’ performance in the Super League.

The player’s manager Kondie Msungama on Monday said he was waiting for the midfielder to settle before exploring other options.

Msungama sought FAM’s intervention, accusing Leopards of breach of contract by proposing to give him a one-month salary and a return air ticket instead of paying him for the year remaining on his contract.
